AI Policy

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

General Principles

Almana : Jurnal Manajemen dan Bisnis recognizes the increasing application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies in academic research, manuscript preparation, editorial management, and scholarly publication.

The journal supports the responsible and transparent use of AI tools when such use contributes to research efficiency, writing quality, analytical assistance, or administrative processes without compromising academic integrity.

This policy applies to authors, editors, reviewers, and other individuals participating in the scholarly publication process.

Relevant technologies include generative AI applications, large language models, AI-assisted writing tools, machine learning systems, automated analytical tools, and other AI-based technologies.

The use of AI must comply with the following principles:

  1. Human accountability.
  2. Transparency and appropriate disclosure.
  3. Scientific accuracy and originality.
  4. Confidentiality and data protection.
  5. Intellectual property protection.
  6. Independent scholarly and editorial judgment.
  7. Compliance with research and publication ethics.

AI technology must not replace human intellectual responsibility.

AI Policy for Authors

Permitted Use

Authors may use AI-assisted technologies for legitimate supporting activities, including:

  • Grammar and language improvement.
  • Academic English editing.
  • Translation assistance.
  • Manuscript organization.
  • Research literature discovery.
  • Programming and statistical assistance.
  • Data visualization support.
  • Technical preparation of tables and figures.

Authors must independently verify the accuracy, relevance, and scientific validity of all AI-assisted outputs.

Prohibited Use

Authors must not use AI technologies to:

  1. Fabricate or falsify research data.
  2. Create fictitious references or citations.
  3. Present synthetic data as genuine empirical observations.
  4. Manipulate statistical results or research findings.
  5. Conceal plagiarism or duplicate publication.
  6. Generate misleading visual research evidence.
  7. Misrepresent AI-generated content as independently verified findings.
  8. Disclose confidential research data to unauthorized AI systems.

AI and Authorship

AI systems cannot be designated as authors or co-authors.

Authorship requires intellectual accountability, ethical responsibility, and approval of the published manuscript.

These responsibilities must remain with human authors.

AI Disclosure

Authors must disclose substantive use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in their research or manuscript preparation.

The disclosure should identify the technology used, its purpose, and its role in preparing the manuscript.

Relevant disclosure may be included in the methodology, acknowledgments, or a dedicated declaration section.

Routine spelling or basic grammar checking that does not generate substantive scientific content generally does not require a separate declaration.

Suggested Author AI Declaration

"During the preparation of this manuscript, the authors used [AI tool name] for [specific purpose]. All AI-assisted content was independently reviewed, verified, and revised by the authors. The authors accept full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and final content of the manuscript."

AI Policy for Editors

Editors may use AI tools to support appropriate administrative and technical editorial activities.

Permissible applications may include:

  • Administrative manuscript checks.
  • Editorial workflow support.
  • Language refinement of general communications.
  • Reference verification support.
  • Technical manuscript assessment.
  • Authorized similarity-screening processes.

Editorial Decision-Making

AI technologies must not independently determine manuscript acceptance, rejection, or revision decisions.

Final editorial decisions must remain the responsibility of authorized human editors.

Editors must critically evaluate any AI-generated information used to support editorial activities.

Confidentiality

Editors must not upload unpublished manuscripts, confidential reviewer reports, author identities, or editorial correspondence to unauthorized external AI platforms.

Any use of AI systems involving confidential materials requires appropriate authorization, necessary permissions, and safeguards ensuring confidentiality and data protection.

AI Detection

AI-generated text detection tools may produce inaccurate classifications.

Detection results must not serve as the sole basis for allegations of misconduct or editorial rejection.

Editors should evaluate relevant evidence and provide authors with an appropriate opportunity to respond to concerns.

Editorial Accountability

Editors remain responsible for the fairness, consistency, accuracy, confidentiality, and integrity of all AI-assisted editorial processes.

AI Policy for Reviewers

Reviewers are expected to conduct independent, confidential, objective, and constructive scientific evaluations.

AI-assisted technologies may be used for limited supporting purposes only when consistent with the journal's policy and authorized by the editorial office.

Permitted Supporting Activities

Subject to authorization, reviewers may use AI for:

  • Improving the language of independently written reviewer comments.
  • Understanding general methodological concepts.
  • Conducting general background literature searches.
  • Organizing non-confidential reviewer notes.

Prohibited Activities

Reviewers must not:

  1. Upload confidential manuscripts into unauthorized AI platforms.
  2. Disclose unpublished research findings through AI systems.
  3. Delegate the complete scientific evaluation to an AI tool.
  4. Submit unverified AI-generated review reports.
  5. Rely exclusively on automated recommendations.
  6. Reveal confidential author or editorial information.
  7. Use AI-generated allegations as the sole evidence of misconduct.

Independent Review

Reviewers remain responsible for evaluating research originality, theoretical relevance, methodology, analytical procedures, findings, conclusions, and ethical compliance.

AI-generated outputs cannot replace independent scientific judgment.

Disclosure Requirements

Reviewers who receive permission to use AI in their review activities must disclose the relevant tool and purpose to the editorial office.

Suggested Reviewer AI Declaration

"During the preparation of this peer review report, I used [AI tool name] solely for [permitted purpose]. No confidential manuscript information was disclosed to unauthorized AI systems. All scientific evaluations, conclusions, and recommendations were independently developed and verified. I accept full responsibility for the content of this review."

Violations of the AI Policy

Potential violations of this policy will be assessed through appropriate editorial procedures.

Violations may include undisclosed substantive AI use, fabricated research evidence, manipulated analytical findings, unauthorized disclosure of confidential manuscripts, or improper delegation of scholarly responsibilities to AI systems.

Depending on the seriousness of the violation, Almana : Jurnal Manajemen dan Bisnis may request clarification, require manuscript revision, reject the submission, issue a correction, publish an expression of concern, or retract the affected article.

All decisions should be supported by relevant evidence and consistent with the journal's ethical procedures.

Policy Review and Updates

The editorial board should periodically review this policy to reflect technological developments and evolving international standards for responsible AI use in scholarly publishing.

Almana : Jurnal Manajemen dan Bisnis encourages innovation in research and publishing while maintaining the fundamental principle that human researchers, editors, and reviewers remain accountable for their contributions and professional decisions.
